Prof. Derrick Silove has been a qualified psychiatrist for over 40 years and has worked with PSYCH2U/GP2U for approximately six years. He was previously Scientia Professor of Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales and is currently an Emeritus Professor. Dr Silove has worked across hospital, community, public sector and private practice settings in Sydney. He has also undertaken major research and development projects both within Australia and internationally. Dr Silove has been awarded several large-scale research and development grants, including funding through the NHMRC, and was awarded Membership of the Order of Australia (AM) in recognition of his significant contributions to psychiatry.
His areas of interest include:
- Anxiety disorders
- Stress-related conditions
- Trauma-related presentations
- Depression
- Bipolar disorder
Dr Silove sees adult patients aged 17 to 75 years for:
- Anxiety, stress-related disorders and traumatic stress
- Depression and bipolar disorder
Dr Silove does not see:
- ADHD
- Alcohol or drug dependence as a primary presentation
- Personality disorders
- Dementia or related disorders
- Patients requiring urgent crisis care, including acute suicidality
